28.04.2021 - New studio album announced
Hello Folks!
Somnia will be released to coincide with the return of our 3 day Hawkfest
festival, which runs from 27th - 29th August in East Devon, the anniversary
of Hawkwind's first ever live gig.
The concept of Somnia makes many
allusions to sleep; through Roman mythology and the god of sleep Somnus, the
lyrics tell the tale of sleepless paranoia, strange encounters, fever dreams
and meditation.
In light of the governments
announcement yesterday regarding the reopening of events this
summer, we are pleased to be able to put Hawkfest tickets back on
sale from Tuesday 2nd March 2021
Hawkfest 2021 will take
place near Axminster in East Devon on the 27,28,29th August. This
will be a 3 day, family friendly, outdoor camping event over the
bank holiday weekend, Camping available for tents, caravans and

Cherry Red are delighted to announce a brand-new studio album by Hawkwind
Light Orchestra. Carnivorous (an anagram of Coronavirus), which follows
their critically acclaimed 2019 album All Aboard The Skylark and
effortlessly resumes the space rock voyage embarked upon by the full band.
The album was recorded entirely in lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic,
having started life as a solo project by Dave Brock during the winter of
2019, with contributions added by the band in January and February, before
the lockdown began. Musically the stalwart trio of Dave Brock (vocals, lead
guitar, keyboards and synths), Richard Chadwick (drums) and Magnus Martin
(guitar, vocal and keyboards) have created a tight, futuristic but classic
sounding record that emphasises Dave’s exemplary song writing.
Carnivorous is an album that by design had to be recorded without a full
complement of Hawkwind members in their usual style. However, it is a
testament to the contributing members’ proficiency to end up with an album
that bears all the hallmarks of classic Hawkwind while recorded under such
testing circumstances.
Dyna-mite is a cruising and catchy opener, complete with memorable guitar
solos, electronic flourishes and laced with Dave’s trademark commentary on
human behaviour. There is plenty of timeless rock for fans to enjoy; from
the pulsating rhythms of Void Of Wasteland to the free-spirited groove of
Repel Attract. On side 2, Model Farm Blues fuses the band’s psychedelic
blueprint with classic blues and there is even a tongue in cheek nod to the
recent pandemic in Lockdown (Keep Calm) and a more serious note on The
Virus, while the heartfelt Forgotten Memories, about the devastating effects
of Alzheimer’s, is one of the album’s most powerful songs. At every stage of
Carnivorous you can hear the fifty years of experience at Hawkwind’s
fingertips, boundaries they’re still pushing today.
Hawkwind’s 50th anniversary celebrations were due to continue throughout
2020 with headline slots at festivals throughout the summer, Dave Brock solo
shows at HRH Prog in London and Sheffield, and their annual Hawkfest event
taking place in Devon on 28th-30th August. The band are monitoring the
situation and will proceed with live shows as soon as possible.

24.04.2020 Beautiful Days 2020, please read :-(
16.03.2020 HRH Prog Postponed :-(
Sad to let you know, that due to the spread of Coronavirus (Carnivorous),
and government advice....HRH Prog, which Dave Brock was headlining in
Sheffield and London, has been postponed...New dates to be announced soon,
30.01.2020 We're going back to Beautiful days!
Hello Folks
We are pleased to confirm
that we will be returning to Beautiful Days this year to headline the Big
Top :-)
07.01.2020 Martin Griffin RIP
A message from the family
of Martin Griffin....A true gentleman and friend who we will all sorely
miss..
Martin Griffin, legendary Hawkwind drummer has passed away peacefully on
06/01/2020 following a short illness surrounded by his loved ones.
Martin joined the
band for 2 stints between the years of 1978 and 1982 and played on albums
such as Sonic attack and Church of Hawkwind, as well as headlining with the
band at Glastonbury festivals Pyramid stage in 1981.
As is apparent from Social Media and the outpouring of emotion, Martin has
touched many peoples lives and was loved and respected by all.
Martin had worked in and around the music industry most of his life, playing
drums alongside artists such as Ark, Half Human band, Richard Strange and of
course Hawkwind.
He recorded many rising
talents such as Elvis Costello and ABC at his recording studio in Cornwall
and pioneered a successful music sponsorship company working with major
artists around the globe.
He was quite simply the most wonderful human being and will be deeply missed
by so many. His family respectfully asks for privacy during this difficult
time.
So Sunday 19th July 2020 #RMFair2020 sees the return of the Grooverider
Stage and without further ado here are the bands confirmed so far...
They need no introduction and return to The Fair as Grooverider Stage
headliners, (and it will be their 50th anniversary too!) they are space rock
legends and spacelord warriors on the edge of time Hawkwind! Joining the
Hawks we have those psychedelic Icelanders The Vintage Caravan and we also
bring you the new masked psychedelic desert rock of 'THE NEW DEATH CULT!
From Canada we have blues psych rockers Crown Lands! And our last
announcement for the Grooverider today - They owned the Rising Stage last
year as the people's choice and they will be playing the Grooverider in
2020. They are currently out supporting previous Ramblin' headliners The
Cult, they are the UK's very own rockers and rollers Piston!
Cherry Red are delighted
to announce the brand-new studio album by the legendary Hawkwind.
All Aboard The Skylark
All Aboard The Skylark is the band’s 32nd studio album and a storming return
to their space rock roots. It is released on 25th October 2019 on vinyl,
digital and CD (along with a second bonus disc) Acoustic Daze.
2019 marks the beginning of the band’s 50th Anniversary year and All Aboard
The Skylark picks up effortlessly from their conceptual Top 40 charting
albums The Machine Stops (2016) and Into The Woods (2017).
Musically the solid quartet of Dave Brock (guitar, vocals, keyboards),
Richard Chadwick (drums), Niall Hone (bass, keyboards) and Magnus Martin
(guitar, vocals) have created a tight, psychedelic groove that runs through
the spine of the album, but embraces each musician’s individual talents
along the way.
Opener Flesh Fondue is a classic Hawkwind space rock number; alien creatures
feeding on the inhabitants of planets, carried by Brock’s characteristic
guitar and vocals and underpinned by Chadwick’s superb rhythm and hypnotic
drum fills. Nets Of Space is a bass driven trip, complimented by swirling
guitar loops and rhythmic drumming while the conceptual Last Man On Earth
and We are not Dead…Only Sleeping lead us headlong into the free-spirited
psychedelic groove of All Aboard The Skylark. The contemplative 65 Million
Years Ago, with haunting Brock vocals is followed by the melodic lament, In
the Beginning, which leads to the expansive and multi-layered The Road To…,
and closes with The Fantasy of Faldum, (based on a Hermann Hesse fairytale).
This is an exciting and unmissable addition to the Hawkwind canon.
Acoustic Daze
Following a live tour, when Hawkwind opened their own shows with an acoustic
set, the band went into the studio and recorded Acoustic Daze, acoustic
versions of some classic Hawkwind tracks.
Including Psy Power, Down Through The Night and We Took The Wrong Step Years
Ago, this shows another fascinating side to the band. Stripping back the
songs to their roots doesn’t dilute any of the raw power, highlighting the
depth and musical perception that Hawkwind have forged over the past fifty
years.
Acoustic Daze will be released as part of the CD set of All Aboard The
Skylark and as a stand alone vinyl edition – limited to 1000 copies
worldwide!
The 50th Anniversary celebrations this year have already seen the band
headline the acoustic stage at Glastonbury and play a headline slot at the
metal festival Graspop in Belgium, alongside a host of other UK and European
festivals, including a free Easter festival for their Hawkwind Passport
Holder fan club.. They’ve been nominated for awards and are planning a
special 50th Anniversary Hawkfest for the end of the year. There will be a
nationwide tour in November culminating in a show at the prestigious Royal
Albert Hall on November 26th.

We are very sad to let you know that
our old friend and band mate DikMik, (Michael Davies), passed away early
this morning. He will be loved and remembered for his innovative
contributions not only to Hawkwind, but to a whole musical genre of which he
was an important pioneer...
Dave Brock...."I remember when DikMik
joined the band, he bought himself an audio generator from Tottenham Court
Road, got himself a Watkins Copycat echo unit, a fold up card table,
(complete with green baize), and became one
of the innovators of electronic music!
It was on DikMik's suggestion, and
later persistence, that we got Lemmy to join the band and you know the
rest!
Goodbye old chap your legend lives

2018 is a go!
HawkEaster Happening 2018!
Friday 30th March to Sun 1st April
2018.-The Alhambra Theatre, Morecambe.
This wonderful old seaside theatre
has been given two years to prove itself as an arts/music venue…..If
not, it will be turned into flats.
It is an important part of UK theatre
history, most famous for being the setting for John Osborne’s “The
Entertainer” starring Laurence Olivier which was filmed there in 1960.
We want to help save this iconic
building which is situated on an amazing beach in an often overlooked
part of the country.
More details of the HawkEaster
Happening 2018 coming soon.......
28.06.17 - Hawkwind
trademark hearing
We are really happy to let everyone
know, that a decision has finally been reached in the USA by the TTAB
regarding HAWKWIND and Nicholas Turner.
The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board found in Hawkwind's favour and has just
issued an order which sustained our opposition.
Nik Turner CANNOT use the name
Hawkwind!
Its been over three hard years, which has drained our energies and
resources......We are so glad its over and the correct verdict has
finally been reached.
The
members of Hawkwind would like to thank you all for your support in what
has been a very stressful few years! Hopefully we can now put all this
behind us and get on with other more creative and positive stuff!
We will comment further when the
news has finally sunk in.....But for now, we are off to celebrate!
Please raise a glass, (or whatever), to the good ship Hawkwind!
Long may she sail!! :-D
x
06 .06.17 - Rose
RIP
It is with great
sadness that I have to let you know that our dear friend Rose passed away
today.
Many of you will remember
her and Margaret on the gates and doors of every Hawkfest and HawkEaster.
She was a kind and beautiful woman, for whom, nothing was too much trouble.
She loved Hawkwind and all the extended family, knowing many of the regulars
by name.. She was fiercely loyal and stuck with the band through good times
and bad, offering support where it was most needed. I couldn't begin
to list all the work Margaret and Rose put in behind the scenes to make
things run smoothly.
She asked us to let you all know when the time came and she was talking
about the Hawkwind family right until the end.
We managed to send her a running commentary of life on the bus on the recent
dates. She was always eager to hear where we were and what we were all
doing.
Many of you brought flowers and gifts for her at HawkEaster, she knew it
would be her last one and was greatly touched by the gesture. She asked us
to thank each and every one of you....She had a fabulous time and certainly
felt the love.
I can't write much more at the moment, but we would all love to hear any
stories or tributes you wish to leave, or any photos you wish to post. (We
would especially like the one of Rose wearing the Hawkwind crown at
HawkEaster......someone took a photo, but we cannot remember who). This
would be a great comfort to her husband Roger, who many of you also met at
recent HawkEasters, and to her family.
To this end you can leave stories,
memories photos either on the following facebook group page

Lewis, The Brook, Southampton RIP
All at Hawkwind HQ are

Together with his
business partner Dylan, he ran the popular Southampton venue from 1996 and
in that time welcomed Hawkwind on numerous occasions, they were always fun

Hi Folks, we can
now announce that the new album "Into The Woods" will be released by Cherry
Red Records on the 5th May
In many ways, it is the perfect sequel to last year’s acclaimed concept
studio album and live stage show, The Machine Stops, which was inspired by
E.M. Forster's Sci-fi classic, a dystopian vision of the future brought to
life with characteristic Hawkwind style
Warm-up dates for Hawkwind in mid-March are dubbed ‘A Glimpse Into
Greenness’, which gives some indication of the conceptual and lyrical themes
behind the band’s new album. To promote Into The Woods, Dave Brock and Co.
will be touring through May, culminating in what is set to be a memorable
show at London’s prestigious venue The Roundhouse on 26th May. It will be 45
years since Hawkwind played at the venue’s historic ‘Greasy Truckers Party’
in The Roundhouse and first recorded ‘Silver Machine’!

Nothing more to say at
this point, like for so many of you this news is just sinking in, more to

Update- comment from Dave
So very sad to wake to the news that we have lost Lemmy.
He was a character, a gentleman and a friend. I’ll miss him and especially
our eccentric text conversations of recent years…
We had a magical bond when we played together. He had a style all of his own
and his legendary bass playing will live on forever…..We’ll miss you man,
you’ll not be forgotten. DB

05.12.15 - Important announcement!! London venue change from SBE to the
Coronet
As some of you may have heard, it seems Shepherd's Bush Empire has been declared structurally unsafe and we have been told that they have had to cancel the rest of their shows this year.
Finding and booking an alternative London venue for a show 5 days before Christmas has been a nightmare, but we were determined not to reschedule til next year, which we were advised was the only solution.....We care too much about you guys to do that without leaving a stone unturned, so the last 24 hours have been spent not only tearing much hair out, but phoning around and pulling in favours from everyone we know and we are proud to say that with a little help from our friends, we have done it!
We apologise for any inconvenience the change of venue will cause, but it could have been a lot worse..
Big thanks to the Coronet (a fantastic looking venue) for accommodating us and our hearts go out to the bands who haven't been as lucky as us....
Thoughts are also with the great folk at SBE who have to cope with this situation through no fault of their own....We are just so thankful that their H&S checks uncovered the danger and prevented a potential disaster....

- Hawkwind launch
a Sonic Attack on the singles chart with a little help from Brian Blessed!
It’s the musical
collaboration we never knew we needed, until now! Legendary space rockers
HAWKWIND have teamed up with kingly thespian Brian Blessed for a brand new
single version of ‘Sonic Attack!’
When Hawkwind decided
to recreate their classic Space Ritual show of 1972, for one night only, at
the London’s Shepherds Bush Empire in February 2014, the venerable group
donated all proceeds to animal charities including Team Badger – of which
Brian Blessed is a patron. It was a gig that set the wheels in motion for a
storming new partnership.
The accompanying
video was created by long time Hawkwind artist Martin McGuiness.
This powerful
addition to the Hawkwind canon is available from 1st September
2014.
Sonic Attack is on the way…01.09.14. Pre-order the
single now to help Brian and Hawkwind break the Top 40!

that features both Arthur and the Faries together with Senser and Poisoned
Electrick Head.
The observant amongst you

- Hawkfest feedback pleaseHello folks,
We would love feedback from all of you who attended HawkEaster this year
(and last)...
We have been asked if it would be possible next year to move it to a
different weekend....maybe later in the summer when it is warmer....?
We will be having a vote on facebook later, so would like to know the
thoughts of the folk on here who are not on facebook.
Do we keep it at Easter or turn it into a summer fest......or maybe May bank
holiday?
Well folks HawkEaster is
almost upon us, looking forward to seeing you all at the weekend.
Things get going tomorrow
evening from about 6pm when the venue will be open for registration and a
get together of attendees. Hot food and a full bar will be available as well
as music (not live) and visuals to get you in the mood.
We open the doors at 2 pm
on Saturday and 12:00 midday on Sunday with an 11:30pm (approx) finish on
both nights.
Running times should be
posted at the venue both days but also make sure you check out the official

updates.

- Space Ritual DVD & CD leaflet to download
Hello Folks, Now we are
nearly all home and nearly all recovered from what was an epic weekend, we
just wanted to say a big THANK YOU! to everyone who came along, supported
the causes and made the weekend so special...
But most of all we are
indebted to the volunteers who gave up their afternoon and packed party bags
for several hours before the show.....We salute you!
We have noticed that
there is a little confusion as some of the bags contained DVD pre-order
forms and some did not...So for all the folk who didn't get a form
and some did not......So for all the folks who didn't get a form in their
bag (or indeed if you couldn't get to the actual show) you can download it
by clicking here
For those of you unsure
about how to print this off, here's a couple of suggestions -
From your web browser
Firefox - Depending on
which version you are using either go File - Print and follow the onscreen
instructions or for more recent editions there is a tab on the left hand
side of the screen that says "Firefox", click this and select the Print
option
Internet Explorer - Hover
over picture, right click and select "Print Picture" from the list of
options.
Alternately you can save
the image directly to your computer by once again right clicking on your
mouse and selecting "Save Image As" in firefox and "Save Picture As" in
explorer.
Hope that helps!

years artwork, whilst currently under construction more details will be
added over the coming weeks. With Easter weekend falling almost a month
later than last year, (19/20th April), we are hoping the weather
will be a lot warmer…..We have again booked the private camping field at
Manor Farm and
Eves Tipis are also
taking orders.
The same as last year, there
will be a bus running between the campsite and the venue after the show.
The tourist attractions, shops,
pubs and cafes of Seaton are again giving us a warm welcome and will be
offering discounts to everyone attending the weekend.
We will be opening the doors on
the evening of Friday 18th April for registration, wristbands and
a social get together with music and DVDs on the big screen and a full
bar…..This worked very well last year and it was a great evening…
We will again open the venue on
Easter Monday morning/lunchtime to meet for a goodbye picnic lunch.
For everyone attending the Rock4Rescue charity event at
Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Sat 22nd February, please remember the
doors open at 6.30pm and things will start to happen around 7.00pm. The
evening will not be scheduled in a regular concert format, so if you don’t

Atomhenge,
the Cherry Red
Records label managed by Esoteric Recordings, the home of the
entire HAWKWIND catalogue released between 1975 and 1997, are very
pleased to announce that the classic HAWKWIND album “WARRIOR ON
THE EDGE OF TIME”
will be released in May 2013 as a
newly remastered edition from the original stereo master tapes. Atomhenge
label manager Mark Powell said; “Contrary to popular myth, the master tapes
of this classic album were never lost. They remained in the United Artists
vaults. The Atomhenge reissue will be the first ever CD edition to be taken
from the original first generation master tapes. All previous editions have
been taken from vinyl transfers or inferior copy master tapes”.
Aside from a single disc remastered
edition, there will be two other expanded editions of the album. Mark Powell
adds; “I’m extremely pleased to say that Steven Wilson has mixed the album
into a stunning 5.1 Surround Sound mix from the original multi-track master
tapes and has also undertaken a new stereo mix of the album which has an
amazing depth and clarity whilst remaining faithful to the original release.
“Warrior” is one of THE classic albums of the 1970s and is a land-mark album
in Hawkwind’s history. The forthcoming reissues will do justice this
magnificent record”.
Full details of the editions of
“Warrior” will be announced in the coming weeks.
Cherry Red
managing director, Adam Velasco added; “The album “Warrior on the Edge of
Time” has been unavailable officially on CD for many years and it is our
intention to make the forthcoming releases definitive editions in terms of
audio remastering (from the original master tapes), content and packaging”.
Hawkwind
will be touring in April 2013 performing WARRIOR ON THE EDGE OF TIME,
with further dates planned later in the year. Confirmed dates ca be found on

- Manchester support and a couple more bands for HawkEaster
Just letting you know
that Tim Blake will be doing a solo set as support for the gig at Manchester
this coming Friday. As ever full details of this and all upcoming Hawkwind
gigs can be found on the
tour dates page but please make special note of the stage times
for this show as there is an early curfew due to the venue also holding a
club night -
We had a meeting with the campsite owners the
other day. It's a beautiful site with amazing views over Lyme Bay. The
campsite is approximately 15 minutes walk to the venue, (a little more
coming back as it's uphill :-). The venue is
2 minutes walk from the sea front :-).
The price per pitch for a large/family tent (and car) is £10 or £5 for
single/small tent (and car), payable directly to the site owners.
There are a few electric hook-ups available on the campsite, but
unfortunately, only for tents as the site is not suitable for motor homes
etc, unless the ground is exceptionally dry. There are however, extra spaces
for motor homes elsewhere on the site, which do have electric hook ups.
These sites are limited....probably only around 15, more if you book
together and don't mind sharing a pitch...
Good news! Dogs are welcome and the owner (Tim) will put up a marquee with
picnic tables as a meeting area for HawkEaster folk.
Tipis will be
available to rent fully furnished (if required) from
Eve's Tipis, click here for more details.

We would like to thank those of you who braved the terrible weather on
December 20th to join us in the Celebration of the Life of Huw
Lloyd-Langton. It was a wonderful tribute to Huw, that so many people
attended to pay their last respects and helped to make it a day that Huw
would have approved of..
Marion, Kirsty and family would like to thank everyone who sent messages of
tribute and condolence.
Your support was truly appreciated.
Later in the year, we are planning to erect a memorial, with a commemorative
plaque, in a place where fans and friends can visit to remember Huw.
This will be in the summer and we will make it a day of celebration.
Hopefully it will give those of you who could not attend on Thursday, the
opportunity to come, share your stories and say farewell.
More details on this soon
20.12.12 - Huw's funeral - Order of
service
In case you missed the
link elsewhere simply click here
As you can imagine there has been an overwhelming
response to the very sad news of Huw’s passing. We have had thousands of
messages from all around the world.
There are so many folk who would have loved to come and pay their respects
to Huw in person on Thursday, but practicalities would not allow.
Marion and Kirsty have expressed their wishes that those people from around
the world, who cannot be present, light a candle at 12 noon and say a few
words in Huw’s memory.
If you would like to follow the service, we will be publishing the Order of
Service on Thursday via the website, keep an eye out for the link to appear.
For obvious reason we won't be posting
from the usual address so if there are any problems we will also be putting
the link details onto facebook so if nothing has appeared here by midday uk
time on Thursday then please check there for the relevant details, thank
you.
Update - A couple more points for you
regarding tomorrow
No dress code, come as you feel
comfortable.
Huw's family have requested that people do not take pictures on the day,
We are sure everyone will understand and respect their wishes.
Thanks in advance for your co-operation.
First of all on behalf of Huw's wife Marion, daughter Kirsty and the rest of
the Hawkwind family, we'd like to send out a heartfelt thanks to all of you
who have sent tributes and kind words of support at this sad time, via the
forum, facebook and e-mail.
Due to an overwhelming response and restrictions on space we need everyone
who would like to come and pay their respects to Huw on the 20th December,
and who has not already confirmed, to contact us at
Huw@hawkwind.com
as soon as possible and at the latest by Monday 17th December. We will then
collate a list of names which will be checked on the day. Unfortunately if
you are not listed, we will not be able to guarantee entry for the reasons
mentioned.
Thanks for reading and we look forward to hearing your confirmations over
the next few days.
Huw's funeral will take
place at 12 noon on Thursday 20th December at St Mary's Church, Church Hill,
Stalbridge, Sturminster Newton, DT10 2LR
All are welcome, however if you intend to be there, please email us by
clicking here
as soon as possible so that we have an idea of the numbers and can arrange a
suitable venue for the reception.
It is with immense
sadness that we have to let you know our great friend of many years and
fellow musician Huw Lloyd Langton passed away peacefully last night.
Huw had been bravely fighting cancer for a couple of years, but was
determined not to let the battle affect his day to day life. He continued to
play his guitar, laugh, joke and share the great love he had in his heart,
with all who knew him.
As he wished, he was at home when the time came, with his ever strong and
loving wife Marion at his side.
Huw was one of the great guitarists with an individual style and character.
He is gone but never forgotten by any of us. He will live on in our music
and in our hearts.
We will update you all with details of funeral and remembrance plans as and
when we have them.
Meanwhile we have opened a book of condolence on our forum
for all of the many people who will wish to share their thoughts at this sad
time.
If you do not wish to
join the forum but still want to leave a message then please send an
e-mail here
and we will make sure these are added to the book at an appropriate time.

Breaking News!
Hawkwind Theremin and Ax player, Tim Blake has broken his wrist in a freak
pruning accident at his French home near Poitiers...
It seems that Monsieur Blake, was pruning the wall vines in his small
vineyard, when the ladder collapsed under him, shattering his wrist.
Tim was rushed by ambulance to Poitiers University Hospital where he was
operated on by the head of orthopaedics, le
Professor Gayet.
The plaster-cast will be taken off on August 13, and doctors will operate
immediately to remove the 3 pins.
Tim will then travel to Hawkwind HQ in the UK to join the rest of the band
for their performance at Rockin the Park festival in Nottinghamshire, on
August 17.
Tim commented, "When the medical team saw a video of me playing with
Hawkwind, they said, 'Okay, we'll get you playing for the 17th, but this
will hurt !'"
We might well see Tim playing a little more Theremin than Ax, at Clumber,
however he pointed out, "that a very expressive wrist is needed!"

Seems like a perfectly
good way to wipe away those winter blues so we hope to see plenty of
Hawkfans :-)
We are really sad to have to pass on this sad news. We will do an update
when we return to England with details of Johns life and how he has spent
his years since leaving Hawkwind.
We thought it appropriate to share the message that we received from John's
sister Franny in its entirety.
"Hi Dave & Kris,
Sadly, John passed away on Saturday evening 26th May. He went peacefully,
after a wonderful day.
I'll just back track a week... John wanted to celebrate his forthcoming
birthday by giving the staff at Garden Crest a lunch party. So food was
brought in and everyone had a good time.
During that week he began to sleep a lot more than usual, and although his
breathing was a bit more laboured, he was still speaking pretty good.
The great thing was.. He received all our family birthday cards, and was so
thrilled to receive cards and letters from you lovely folk, and many
Hawkwind fans (some too young to have seen John play) all saying such
wonderful things,. His best friend Linda , was amazed by the content of the
letters, as John had never really talked about this part of his life. She is
going to send them over to me later on , So that me n sis n cousins can
enjoy reading them.
John was also very happy to receive a package from me, containing photos I'd
taken when i visited him last month, of his carers, and also some beach life
at "Surf City USA" where I stayed. Also included were copies of
illustrations I had just finished for a book a friend has written, (these
had been giving me nightmares as they'd taken me so long to do). He thought
they were brilliant ( well he would - he's my bruv ! ha ha).
So on Saturday 26th when Linda visited, she re-read his cards and letters
with him, and also my package which he had been saving for her to show
him,and to read all my attatchments. He really enjoyed himself, deciding
which things to add to his pinboard, or the wall.
He also spent his usual time in the garden, under the tree, shaded from the
hot Californian sun, overlooking the wonderful views, eating ice cream.
In the evening, William was attending to John around 7.45pm. John thanked
him for looking after him. William looked in on him again around 8pm and
found he had passed away.
Linda returned to see him, and said his face was so peaceful, and showed no
signs that he'd been distressed . which is a great relief to us all, as it
was expected that his final time could be quite traumatic.
She also said that during the week Robyn, his lovely visitor from social
services, had a nice talk with him, and Linda too had a conversation with
him about what might happen. She said he was very "at peace" no longer
afraid, and felt it would be just like going to sleep.
I think I mentioned that John had arranged that his body would go to UCLA
medical centre. They were notified straight away, and a very nice white
vehicle collected him .Several carers and staff watched him leave ,and said
their goodbyes to "Mr John". He was treated with great respect and dignity.
Once again many thanks Dave and Kris , Hawkwind, and Fans, for your kindness
in sending messages, cards and letters to John. It played such a great part
in giving him happiness and contentment in his final days.
When you update your website with the news about John , you may use any info
from this e mail if you wish.
Meanwhile, Hope the tour has kicked off well, and you are all having a
fantastic time. with sell-out venues.
Love n Best wishes
Franny"

- Crystal Palace gig cancelled
Unfortunately we have
just found out that the Crystal Palace Garden Party gig that was scheduled
to take place on the 23rd June has been cancelled due to "Structural damage
to the stage".
Whilst we are sorry to
have to announce this it is obviously beyond Hawkwind's control.
According to the official
statement, fans should contact the agency or outlet where they brought
tickets from with regards to a refund. If we get any further information
regarding this we will keep you informed and update this news item as
appropriate.
19.05.12 - Some news regarding original Hawkwind bassist John Harrison
Hello folks,
We have some sad news about our friend and original Hawkwind bass player
John Harrison. John was diagnosed with Huntington's disease about 7 years
ago, and is now in the later stages of it. It's a horrible situation for
sufferers, as in John's case the brain stays sharp, but a single gene
mutation causes neurons in the brain to die which affects movement etc. The
body starts shaking in the first stages and then gradually closes down.
He is in a clinic and virtually bed ridden, but thanks to the brilliant team
of carers, and his own laid back, cheery personality, he has adapted to his
condition, and is very popular.
His view is the Hollywood hills, the "Hollywood" sign, the Griffith Park
Observatory, and beyond those, the mountains.
He has happy memories of his time in Hawkwind and has agreed to allow us to
share the news of his condition with you all. He sends his best wishes.
He will be 70 on 28th May and if anyone would like to send him a birthday
card he is at:
Garden Crest
909 North Lucile Avenue
Los Angeles 90026California
Thanks for reading

30.04.10 - Hawkwind
- new studio album details revealed
Eastworld Recordings has
announce the signing of legendary space rockers
Hawkwind.
The original pioneers of space rock return with their eagerly awaited new
album, "Blood Of The Earth", their first in five years.
Produced by the band at state-of-the-art recording facility Earth Studios,
"Blood Of The Earth"
takes the listener on a journey through crushing visceral space rock, doom
driven poetry, whimsical mantras and imagination opera. An example of humans
and machines pulsing in harmony out into the void....
Hawkwind is an English rock band, one of the earliest space rock groups.
Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. They are also a noted
precursor to punk rock and now are considered a link between the hippie and
punk cultures.
Formed in early1969 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, Hawkwind
has gone through many incarnations and styles of music. Critic Jim Green
describes their trademark sound as characterized by "that gargantuan and
impenetrable pre-metal/hardcore drone, those great riffs, that inexorable
drive to destinations unknown". Dozens of musicians have worked with the
group; notable fantasy and sciencefiction writer Michael Moorcock was an
occasional collaborator.

It is with heavy heart
that we have to let you know, our good friend Carol Clerk passed away
peacefully in her sleep yesterday at 11.45am.
She had been battling breast cancer for over a year. In November she
suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with an additional brain tumour. Over
the weeks the tumour grew and put pressure on her brain.
She was admitted to Wisdom Hospice on Thursday and slept through.
Yesterday morning, with her husband Nigel by her side, she just stopped
breathing and slipped quietly away.
Carol wanted to keep her illness quiet and she suffered in silence for so
long - but now the world needs to know that she is no longer with us.
It was a privilege for us to call Carol our friend, she was a beautiful,
intelligent, funny, woman, a great friend and a talented journalist.
Carol loved Hawkwind and always said that the Hawkwind book was the best she
had ever written.
We felt an affection for Carol which went far beyond that of a purely
professional relationship.
After writing the book, we stayed in touch, we met socially and she attended
the last Hawkfest with her family and had a great time
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Our thoughts are with her husband Nigel and her daughter Eve.
Rest in peace our friend.........

direction and the positiveness that has come from all your messages and
prayers has certainly helped.....
The next few days are going to be crucial, so keep up those positive
thoughts and prayers....
Unfortunately Huw also broke his finger when he was very ill and had it
operated on today.........(It should fully recover and he will be back
playing his guitar as soon as he is able...)
We had a little caption competition at the hospital, but would welcome any
suggestions you have, please post these to either the forum or myspace for

- More news regarding Huw Lloyd Langton
Hi all
One of our forum members happens to
work at the same hospital where Huw is being treated and has just posted the
following message which you'll no doubt want to read -
Just a quick message from Marion and
Huw to post :
Ah! Thank you. Actually you could post a message from me please.
Yesterday Huw was in a remarkable frame of mind and is being very positive
and philosophical about it all. Quote "look so what if it is dialysis for
rest of my life or a kidney transplant c'est la vie - I can think of a lot
worse things cancer being one of them". So he is back fighting the cause.
Which of course gives me a huge amount of
energy to carry on.
I believe the wonderful prayers, good vibes and support sent out by the
Hawkwind family have given him real courage to fight this. So thank you one
and all and keep sending them up!
03.10.09

07.09.09 - A couple of
things for you
First off some of you may have noticed this on the home page but it's worth
repeating here -
Hawkwind are subject of a 1 hour special entitled "The
Mighty Wind – Hawkwind at 40" that will be aired for the first time on
Planet Rock radio this coming Saturday at 7pm UK time, the show will feature
interviews with both the band and fans recorded at the recent Porchester
Hall gigs and promises to appeal to both the hard core fan as well as those
less familiar with the band, so i doubt that part applies to anyone reading
this.
The show will also be repeated on the 17th September (time unknown) and as
well as this it will also feature on the stations media player meaning you
will be able to access it for 7 days after the initial broadcast via the
internet. Planet rock is available on DAB digital radio and the world wide
web, to visit the stations web site
Secondly,
tomorrow, the 8th September marks the first anniversary of the sad passing
of Hawkwind keyboard player Jason Stuart, may we suggest that Hawkfans the
world over take a brief moment during the day to remember him and raise a
glass in his honour whenever and wherever you happen to be.

23.07.09 - Porchester Hall
news and a couple of other snippets
Hello Folks,
Those of you who came to Hawkfest
last year will remember Malinkeys restaurant and Chameleon bars, well
the good news is that they will both be at the Porchester Hall shows
providing food and drink all day long...........
As its a party, we thought it would
be a nice idea if as many folk as possible brought a present wrapped up,
nothing expensive, just something you think others would like, then,
when the music stops, everyone will exchange presents with the
person next to them.....
More news soon...
The Birthday Team :-)
Also be aware that Dave Brock will
once again be appearing on BBC Radio2, this time as a guest on the
Radcliffe and Maconie show this Wednesday night, the 29th July, to visit

Tunstall via the BBC i Player by simply

appear at Green Man Festival
In what is becoming an increasingly
busy summer we can now confirm that Hawkwind will be playing the Green Man
festival in Wales on the 23rd August. as part of 11 hours of "Space Music",
for more details see below or visit the festival's own web site by

On Sunday night in the Far Out Tent
Amorphous Androgynous will be performing as a band in their own
right as well as curating 11 hours of Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble
cosmic space music. Bands will include legendary space rockers
Hawkwind, beautiful folk from the mellifluously voiced
Alisha Sufit (of 70s MAGIC CARPET fame ), The Yellow Moon
Band hot off the space launch pads of last year’s album 'Travels
Into Several Remote Nations Of The World”.
Nick Nicely will enthrall with his colour saturated
universe of psychedelic songs and Cranium Pie will cover
the space-prog end of the MPB spectrum, with Amorphous Androgynous
themselves covering all sonic dimensions in between. On the DJ front expect
to hear a spectrum illuminated by psychedelic, funkoid infused progtronica,
to pagan love vibrations and Indian sitar cover versions. Basically expect
the unexpected to liberate your mind, soul and your feet from Andy
Votel and the Monstrous Psychedelic impresario himself Gaz
Cobain! With lighting by the Bardo States it'll be
an 11 hr visual and sonic feast!
